An allegorical story is told of a meeting of the devils of hell. It was a strategy session and the issue was how to defeat Christians in their daily living. Many suggestions were made. Finally, a bright young demon came up with an idea recognized by all to be the key. He suggested slowly planting bits of bad news here and there until discouragement had taken over. That was it. Bread of Life
A pioneer family was making its way West by covered wagon when they were suddenly surrounded by a band of Indians. With gestures and broken English they made the wife to understand that they wanted her to bake for them a pan of biscuits. After eating the biscuits, they rode away, never to be seen or heard of again.
That day, the Indians hunger was temporarily satisfied. But there is a Continue reading “Bread of Life”
They Know His Voice
One summer when still a student in seminary, I was serving as pastor of a little country church in Central Texas. To help pay off some bills and upcoming tuition for the fall semester, I hired out to a dairy farmer. I knew something about beef cattle, but very little about dairy cattle. So the summer became quite a learning experience.
One of those lessons came early on. The first time I attempted on my own to ‘call’ up the cattle, they just stood and looked at me. On the other hand, when Glen, the cows owner ‘called’ there was no hesitation. They Continue reading “They Know His Voice”
Lost and Found ~ Never to be Lost Again!
Have you ever lost something valuable? Something irreplaceable? And search as you will, you cannot find it?
Well, that has happened to me; I lost my wedding ring and search as much as I can, I cannot find it.

Of course, I immediately started looking, searching and combing through grass and gravel, places when I thought it could have dropped. I searched and looked for hours. Others joined the search, but all to no avail. Next move, bring in a metal detector.
It came to mind while searching that even as valuable as that ring is, there is something in my possession that is more valuable and that is, my eternal Continue reading “Lost and Found ~ Never to be Lost Again!”
“You Can go Home Again”
You’ve hard the saying, “You can’t go home again!” Well, there is a well-know story of a young fellow who did go home again. It began with the young man asking for his share of his father’s estate. And when he received it, he left home and traveled to a far country and there through a series of bad decisions and a lax life-style, lost every cent he had.
Destitute and in severe want he hired himself out to a rancher and was given the most deplorable jobs, mucking out the horse stables and other menial tasks others didn’t want to do. Finally in complete desperation and totally fed-up with himself, he deiced to go back home; anything would be better than this, even to be a hired-hand and live in a bunk house on his father’s ranch.
